::: Photo Album » WMC 2007 | 2.7 Made p/ Danny Howells @ Pawn Shop [Miami]

I once received a text from a fellow music enthusiast that read, 'dude, been on the bus for 13 hrs, and I don't care that I missed my stop'. Be it as perplexing as it is, it warrants me saying that I do indeed have some interestingly unique and weird friends... birds off a feather right? In any case, the text in question is referring to a much talked about venue in downtown Miami known only as Pawnshop.

I made my way to said venue on this night, to see one Danny Howells. I will admit, I wasn't thinking of much when I arrived, as the wear and tear of running around with a group of people, added to the strain of the horrendous treatment by the doormen in this city, had left me in a yearning state for music and dancing of a cathartic nature.

The much revered, or maligned (depending on who you ask), Danny Howells played the entire night, from start to finish. Not one to give him too much credit, he left me no choice but to remember this night as a complete testament to his skills as a DJ, fan-favourite and dance-floor architect.

The venue, is by far one of my new favs in Miami, very unpretentious, house-friendly vibe, with great staff, polite doormen and gasp a liquor license that seems to go forever! There is something wholly endearing about being at a club late with the ability to say, "yes sir...one more Heineken!" Regardless, the night was awesome, the programming of the music was simply impeccable, at times like tidal waves of sound crashing into the dance-floor as if it were a beach itself. Knowing when to drop out, when to lift up and when to punch out; Danny was inside our heads in complete control and loving every second of it.

The dance-floor itself swooned and swayed like a breeze, erupting whenever Danny decided it should. The booth here is in a hollowed out Tractor-trailer cab complete with the horn for the Dj to mess around with! Simply fantastic time had by all. On my way out sometime in the morning, I walked around to the other side of the club, and there embedded into the wall, with a whole mess of people on it, was a big yellow school bus. I'm sure they all missed their stops sometime ago, but alas nobody seemed to care, Danny was driving anyway.
