::: Laidback Luke Interview
Holland’s beloved house music-loving homeboy, Laidback Luke, is on an international mission to rock clubs, win hearts and top charts. A producer and DJ with immense talent, tonnes of spirit and a steely determination to succeed, he has been on a worldwide search for the ultimate in dance floor energy since the mid-1990s. “Music is an amazing tool that can evoke powerful memories and emotions,” says Luke with a smile. “And I will not rest until I’ve given my best: I want to share as much music as possible with as many people as possible.” And with an incredibly impressive discography of 100+ recordings and a DJ diary that takes him from his studio near Amsterdam to clubs all over the world, it would seem that Luke is well on the way to achieve his goals...

::: Photo Album » WMC 2007 | 2.8 Subliminal Sessions @ Club Space [Miami]

Finally after 1, 2, 3, 4... 14 hours of events at 5am we reached our final destination of the night, the notorious Club Space for Mr. Erick Morillo's annual Subliminal Sessions megaparty. Boasting an impeccable lineup including David Guetta, Chus & Ceballos, Tom Novy, Harry Romero, and Morillo himself, this was certainly an event not to be missed. But can you expect anything else from Subliminal? Thanks to Helen for the bypass, we were quickly able to work our way into the madhouse that is Space. With everyone clambering to be on the terrace or rock out in the main room to Morillo's thunderous house beats, transporting from room to room was really an impossibility. The bad news is that all I got to partake of Morillo's set was the 20 minutes of waiting in the stairway to get into the room. Needless to say it was not the most conducive music listening environment. But with the big beats and sounds of the cheering crowd it was evident that Erick was up to his old tricks and killing it properly.

So with enough of the milling around in the stairwell, camera suspended high in the air for safety I decided to make my way up to the terrace for some outdoor entertainment. A what a great decision it was. Just finishing up his bumping set was a favourite of mine Tom Novy. This man knows how to rock a dancefloor and the packed crowd was moving their bodies non-stop. This paved the way for French icon David Guetta. Now granted Guetta is the king of anthems, but at a Subliminal party it's perfect programming. Guetta stormed in with a slew of familiar tunes from the man himself and proceeded to elevate the already soaring crowd to the next level.

But perhaps he raised them to high and they tickled the clouds, because then the rain started. If you've ever experienced Miami rain, then you know it comes quick and it comes hard. Anticipating it to be a typical Miami shower and over in an hour, I worked my way back down to the main room to check out Chus & Ceballos.

Having just played with them in Toronto the weekend before, I knew the boys would be in fine form and they didn't disappoint. Bumping tribal beats, slick acappellas and some nice deckmanship delivered a solid set that made me forget about that crazy terrace while I was drying off. However, around 630 the crowd started thinning and it was time to progress back up top for the night cap.

On the decks now, was Subliminal cohort and Bambossa front man Harry Choo Choo Romero. It had been a while since I've heard the man play, and let me say... phat! Tough house joints with a dash of tribal and a pinch of electro that worked the crowd for several epic hands-in-the-air moments. Weaving a perma-smile on my face, this was the dosing of serious house music I've come to love and expect while at WMC. I thought nothing could ruin this night... alas mother nature had other plans, and a torrential downpour decided to bring my evening to an abrupt halt (as abrupt as you can get at 8am).
