::: Laidback Luke Interview
Holland’s beloved house music-loving homeboy, Laidback Luke, is on an international mission to rock clubs, win hearts and top charts. A producer and DJ with immense talent, tonnes of spirit and a steely determination to succeed, he has been on a worldwide search for the ultimate in dance floor energy since the mid-1990s. “Music is an amazing tool that can evoke powerful memories and emotions,” says Luke with a smile. “And I will not rest until I’ve given my best: I want to share as much music as possible with as many people as possible.” And with an incredibly impressive discography of 100+ recordings and a DJ diary that takes him from his studio near Amsterdam to clubs all over the world, it would seem that Luke is well on the way to achieve his goals... ::: Read the Interview
::: Photo Album | 2009.03.26 » Essential WMC 2009 | 3.2 Toolroom Knights vs Viva Music @ Club Space [Miami]
2009.03.26
For the evening of Day 3, we had one main event that would focus our attention on. For the past 2 WMC's, Toolroom has put on one of the best events of week, and this year with the venue being moved to the legendary Club Space we couldn't have been more excited... well only if they were on the terrace!
Having said that, the terrace lineup for the night wasn't slouchy by any means. Steve Lawler's Viva Music played host to a who's who of minimal and tribal house jocks, including Lawler himself, Luciano, Timo Maas, Tiefschwarz, Thomas Melchoir, and more.
Of course the main attraction was the Toolroom Knights festivities in the main room. And how could it not?!? With an incredible lineup including Funkagenda, ATFC, Dirty Vegas, Josh Gabriel, Fedde le Grand, and an encore performance of last year's killer back 2 back demolition tag team of the wild Dutchman Martijn ten Velden and label head honcho Mr. Mark Knight.
The energy in the room was incredible as the boys laced gem after gem of roof raising monsters. The flow from DJ to DJ just kept elevating the atmosphere, and you could feel the excitement peak when Mark and Martijn took control after a slick set from Fedde.
Martijn, who's Holland's answer to Donald Glaude in terms of energy on the decks seems to elevate Mark to even higher heights as the two essentially battled it out to peak the crowd as best they could. Inevitably Mark got the edge with the legendary "Man With the Red Face" and his new WMC monster track using the hook from the Chic disco classic "Good Times". But one thing's for sure, in this battle there are no losers!
As night faded into morning, we packed it in... sonically satiated to the fullest. Much thanks to the whole Toolroom crew - Mark, Pete, Tania, Phil, and Susan - for hosting another amazing evening. Once again Toolroom had delivered one of the best events of the week, staking their claim as an annual Essential WMC event.
