::: Laidback Luke Interview
Holland’s beloved house music-loving homeboy, Laidback Luke, is on an international mission to rock clubs, win hearts and top charts. A producer and DJ with immense talent, tonnes of spirit and a steely determination to succeed, he has been on a worldwide search for the ultimate in dance floor energy since the mid-1990s. “Music is an amazing tool that can evoke powerful memories and emotions,” says Luke with a smile. “And I will not rest until I’ve given my best: I want to share as much music as possible with as many people as possible.” And with an incredibly impressive discography of 100+ recordings and a DJ diary that takes him from his studio near Amsterdam to clubs all over the world, it would seem that Luke is well on the way to achieve his goals...

::: Photo Album | 2009.03.27 » Essential WMC 2009 | 4.3 Swedish House Mafia @ Mansion [Miami]

After our disappointment during the day, we really needed a pick-me-up that night, and with our sole attention focused on the Swedish House Mafia at Mansion, we were certain that we'd get the musical fix we so desperately needed. And as if Axwell, Angello, and Ingrosso heard our cries... they delivered in spades!

Thanks to Amy @ Xray, entry was smooth and fellow Canadian Carlos @ Mansion ensured we had the access to get you the most amazing shots of the goings on. New comer and man making waves on the production front with releases on Toolroom and Size, Kim Fai was given opening set duties. While we're big fans of his productions, we felt his set to be a bit too aggressive for an opening set, and the tough electro beats were more suited for 4am than a midnight opening. Having said that it is a tough task to open for such an anticipated act, and even though we felt the choice of tracks wasn't the right fit, the mixing was spot on, and during a different time slot or circumstance would have been magical.

After an hour of acclimatising ourselves to the venue and taking note of the stunning dancers and revved up party patrons, it was time for the Mafia to take control. You could feel the energy of the room rise several notches as Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Axwell took control of the massive Funktion One sound system for what will now be considered legendary back-to-back-to-back set till the wee hours of the morning.

This turned out to be the best musical experience of the conference. From their massive new single "Leave The World Behind" to a slew of forthcoming monsters and unreleased remixes, the Swedes dropped absolute magic and you could see it not only on their faces, but on the assortment of house heavyweights in attendance from Dirty South to David Guetta.

For 2009, this was the Essential WMC Event.
