::: WMC 2007 | Madness in Miami ::: WMC | 1.1 Legends Go Digital @ Shine

For the past 10 years Nocturnal has made the trip to the sunny southern tip of America, South Beach Miami for the annual Winter Music Conference. Over the years the conference has grown from a once intimate gathering of the heads and tastemakers to North America's version of Ibiza all compressed into a six day period! While some complain of the change from a business and industry led event to a full out party-fest, the WMC is still the place to get access to the biggest names in electronic music all in one place all at the same time. Further to that the conference delivers many of the forthcoming summer's biggest tunes and allows for us on this side of the pond to experience the massive events and dreamy selection of DJ talent that many Europeans take their access to for granted. For 2007 Nocturnal had a whirlwind trip hitting an unprecedented 22 events in 6 days!!! We shook it with Toolroom, Cr2, Subliminal, Pacha, MN2S, Om, Mnus, Wet Grooves, Blow Media, Burridge Barrage, Juicy Beach, Little Mountain, the BBC Radio 1 Pool Party, and many more and will bring you over 1000 photos from an absolutely action packed WMC 2007! On with the show...

Billed as the official opening party for WMC 2007, where better to start out our South Beach escapades then in the presence of some of the scene's most legendary DJs. Todd Terry, Kenny Dope, Terry Hunter and none other than Jazzy Jeff touched down for a mix of house, funk, and old school...

::: WMC | 1.2 Pop Tarts 3 @ Automatic Slims

Every year at WMC something really special transpires. It's the brainchild of the wildest and wackiest Brit DJ Lee Burridge and now in its third successive year, it is a WMC kickoff institution not to be missed! Pop Tarts 3 sees Lee and special guests Danny Howells and DJ Money hit the decks for a strictly 80s and 90s cheesefest mashup of everything but dance music...

::: WMC | 1.3 Border Community @ BED

To round out our night 1 festivities we proceeded down to the infamous BED for James Holden's "Border Community" showcase presented by NYC heavyweight promoters Made. As part of Made's 10 event WMC extravaganza, this event would set the bar for the rest of the week...

::: WMC | 2.1 Wet Grooves @ Shelbourne Hotel ::: WMC | 2.2 Scion Secret Sessions @ Raleigh Hotel

Every year, Wet Grooves is one of the most essential WMC events to hit South Beach. With a reputation for a crazy crowd, wicked DJs, and equally wicked women, it is the pinacle of what a Miami music confernce party is all about. This year we hit the kick off pool party at the infamous Shelbourne Hotel...

As is the norm with Miami and WMC week, there's always a slew of uber exclusive, DL events whether it be boat cruises, pool parties, or penthouse jam sessions. This year was no exception with Scion (yes the car company) hosting a series of secret events in the penthouse suite at the posh Raleigh Hotel...

::: WMC | 2.3 Tommy Boy Sunset Sessions @ Hotel Victor ::: WMC | 2.4 Global Underground @ Mynt

Just like Scion, Tommy Boy threw an invite only, exclusive VIP event at the luxurious Hotel Victor in celebration of French house music icon Bob Sinclar's huge success with his album Western Dream. Also introducing Ultra Nate's new album and other upcoming electronic acts from the noted commerical label...

To start off the evening we hit up a little media event for Dubfire's upcoming GU:Taipei release at Mynt. Our gracious hosts Lainie and Justin sorted us out with some great grab bags as we had a chance to talk up the man Ali himself about the release and his upcoming global tour...

::: WMC | 2.5 Cr2 @ Mokai ::: WMC | 2.6 Pure Pacha @ Cameo

Next stop on this whrilwind evening was for a very anticipated label party for Cr2. This UK imprint is at the forefront of cutting edge tunes and sets the benchmark for what is cool in house music. Launching careers of Kurd Maverick, MYNC Project, Danny Freakazoid and more, we had to stop by and show some love for this bad ass label...

Thank god for Cameo!!! And thank god for Pete Tong! After a succession of unfriendly dance-clubs and pretentious locals we finally hit a killer show and leave it to none other than Pete Tong and his Pure Pacha brand to deliver...

::: WMC | 2.7 Made p/ Danny Howells @ Pawn Shop ::: WMC | 2.8 Subliminal Sessions @ Club Space

I once received a text from a fellow music enthusiast that read, 'dude, been on the bus for 13 hrs, and I don't care that I missed my stop'. Be it as perplexing as it is, it warrants me saying that I do indeed have some interestingly unique and weird friends... birds off a feather right? In any case, the text in question is referring to a much talked about venue in downtown Miami known only as Pawnshop...

Finally after 1, 2, 3, 4... 14 hours of events at 5am we reached our final destination of the night, the notorious Club Space for Mr. Erick Morillo's annual Subliminal Sessions megaparty. Boasting an impeccable lineup including David Guetta, Chus & Ceballos, Tom Novy, Harry Romero, and Morillo himself, this was certainly an event not to be missed...

::: WMC | 3.1 Juicy Beach @ Nikki Beach ::: WMC | 3.2 Blow Media @ Opium Gardens

When the listings for the conference mayhem started to appear in December of 2006, one event caught the attention of our eye rather quickly. Perhaps one of the most lauded events of the conference, Robbie Rivera’s Juicy Music Beach Party touched down in Miami at the world famous Nikki Beach...

Over the years I have come to love Opium Garden in Miami. The decadent main outdoor area complete with tikki huts for the DJ booth and a posh palace court feel is the perfect venue to enjoy a night of solid house music during the warm south Florida nights. This year's excursions include a few trips to this wondrous venue, the first being for Toronto's own Blow Media, headed by DJ/Producer Hatiras...

::: WMC | 3.3 Toolroom Knights @ Prive ::: WMC | 3.4 Mnus @ Pawn Shop

Thankfully, due to some sweet scheduling and luck on our part, we were able to do a little party hopping, jumping upstairs from Opium Garden to the club within a club, Prive. One of the most respected names in modern house music, Mark Knight and his signature Toolroom Records brought their cool new Toolroom Knights event concept to the ultra posh addendum to Opium Garden...

Richie Hawtin's glorious techno imprint Mnus held its annual WMC soiree at the incomparable Pawn Shop in association with NYC promoter extraordinares Made. Now we at Nocturnal aren't the biggest techno conaisseurs out there, but we do appreciate the genre and what it takes to make good techno, so we approached the show with open minds and what we found turned out to be one of the BEST events of WMC 2007...

After another wild and crazy night full of incredible ups and downs and some great surprises we hit our final destination for the night, our WMC 2006 event of the year winners Om. This year, those San Fran bad boys had an absolutely HUGE line up with the likes of Mark Farina, DJ Sneak, Colette, DJ Heather, Andy Caldwell, Chuck Love and also took it eclectic with Bassnectar, Bugz in the Attic, Mr C, Mike Monday, Landshark and countless others... all spread out over 5 rooms at the brand new $25 million Y Ultralounge in downtown Miami...

One of the most recognizable names in the business, Pete Tong & the BBC rolled into the Surfcomber for a full-day of beats. Fully-outdoors, with a star-studded line-up, including Erick Morillo, Fedde Le Grand, Deep Dish and many more, this was one of those parties that people will remember for not just the music, but the incredulous weather...

We've finally reached the last day of events for the 2007 campaign and after 20+ shows you'd think it'd be all but over, but there certainly was 2 must see shows to wind this whole debacle up. The annual Sunday School event by Made has become a staple of the conference, and with a lineup of the who's who of minimal techno on the bill, this was a certainty...

::: WMC | 6.2 This Is Little Mountain @ Shine

The last day of the conference is here and what better way could you find to end it then with Sander K and crew. Situated in the back of the Shelbourne Hotel, Shine is one of the best small rooms in Miami...

::: Tom Novy Interview
Six million stories and two side to a medal. There's a lot to tell. You just can't be mad at him: champagne, nipple slips and frenzy belong to every music event. Still, Tom Novy seems to attract them in a very special way. No wonder, after all he is one of the few exceptionally gifted artists in the music scene...

While signed to Naked Music, he spearheaded the development of a new brand of West Coast house music signature with the label through numerous singles and EP’s created under his own name and his Petalpusher moniker. In 2004, Migs started his own label, Salted Music. Having been associated with an extensive number of labels throughout his career, he came to realize a desire to have his own base, a vehicle for building his own catalog of quality material...
