::: Nocturnal Magazine.net Weekly Top 50 || Week Ending 2008.02.08

We're back baby... and better than ever! The Nocturnal Top 50 returns refreshed and re-energized for 2008. With a slew of amazing tunes now out or coming soon in the pre-WMC furor, we have set the decks for what's looking like an incredible 2008. And who better to be our first number 1 of the new year, than Toronto rising star Adam K. Along with production partner Soha, their huge anthem "Twilight" was a no brainer to hit the top spot as it's being played by EVERYONE! Not to be outdone other heavyweights hit the upper reaches of the chart with tracks from Bob Sinclar & Steve Edwards, Groove Armada, Workidz, Kurd Maverick, MYNC Project, Funkagenda, Jose Carretas, Superbass, and Halo & Kemal. Tunes to watch out for include joints from Arno Cost & Norman Doray, Patric Lafunk, Richard Dinsdale, David Lara, Fedde le Grand, Groove Junkies, Steve Mill, Osunlande, Leger & Lake, Yousef & Carl Cox, and of course the re-release of Azzido da Bass' "Doom's Night".

Adam K & Soha Twilight Hotbox Digital
What more can you say about this uber hit than GORGEOUS! Adam K & Soha nailed a fine balance of beautiful synth chords with glorious pads and moving percussion. This one is not constrained by genres and played by all that want to make a statement on their dancefloor. » AR
2 --
Bob Sinclar f. Steve Edwards Together Tommy Boy / Defected
When Sinclar and Edwards team up it's pretty much guaranteed magic, and Together solidifies this point. Capturing the vibe of Love Generation, this is an absolute anthem and the first for 2008. Eddie Thoneick kills it on the remix with his trademark fusion of tougher electro elements while maintaining a funky house vibe. This is a must! » AR
3 --
Groove Armada f. Candi Stanton Love Sweet Sound Strictly Rhythm
Groove Armada continue to show that they simply make hits. Love Sweet Sound combines infectious vocals with addictive key stabs and floating pads. Nice build throughout make it a dancefloor heavyweight. Add remixes from Mark Knight & Funkagenda and Nic Fanciulli and how can you go wrong. » AR
4 --
Workidz Washmachine Toolroom
This soon to be infamous afterhour power, is littered and twisted with that irky electro that is simply infectious to raging dance floors. Undeniably a hot number, expect this one to garner massive attention! » SJ
5 --
Kurd Maverick & Tapesh f. Teri B Rise Demeanour
Absolute magic from Kurd Maverick yet again. Teri B's vocals are tight and Kurd really knows how to build intensity for main floor peak time magic. Get ready to Rise! » AR
6 --
MYNC Project Everybody Freakin Cr2
As simple as this song is, as uneventful as you may think it when you browse through it, and listen to that one little snippet when digitally shopping... we promise you that if you open this puppy in the club, it DEVASTATES! » SJ
7 --
Funkagenda What The Fuck Toolroom Trax
The studio wizard from Birmingham comes through in full force, with this 'well to do' vocal sample laced over some sinister beats, Funkagenda's "what the fuck" gives the dance-floor the gears quite handily! » SJ
8 --
Jose Carretas f. Vanessa Freeman Can't Make It MN2S
Smooth, sexy, and soulful. Another vocal gem on British imprint MN2S. The latest member of the Restless Soul crew, Jose Carretas is a new producer who is set to make some serious waves in the near future and Vanessa's vocals are rich and seriously sensual. » AR
9 --
Superbass Solution Toolroom
This one may fall into the alternative rock category to some of you music heads, but whatever you decide for this a’la Joy Division-Cure-esque number, like us you will decide... that it is awesome. » SJ
10 --
Halo & Kemal f. Arnold Jarvis Lift Me Up MN2S
Deep brooding house from Halo & Kemal. Arnold's soulful vocals sound perfect over the moody instrumental with uber deep synths and very chilled out drums. » AR
11 --
Martin Eyerer & Oliver Klein Babylon Kling Klong
We seemingly can get enough of these two at the moment. With a simply luscious style of arranging and producing, their tracks are every-bit as pleasing as one could ask. This track in particular showcases their ethereal boards/keys as the ripple across a succinct but present low end, tight! » SJ
12 --
Nick & John Delagelis Feature Music (Alex Kenji) Presslab
This track speaks to us quite clearly, and what it is saying is...turn the lights down low, really low. Extinguish all things lit in the booth, and stare at the infectious lights of the mix as the blurp, blomp and shudder to this ‘deep’ techno number. Sure to end or begin your set with quality. » SJ
13 --
Alex Rai Introspective Feelings Remud
No gimmicks here. No fancy-sh-mancy waste of time bubbly tech. Simply put. Its a straight forward driver, with a nice hook and a good warm deep electronic sound. By doing less, this track has us ripping it even more! Less is more. We mean that! » SJ
14 --
ZRG Inferno (Dende Remix) Nuhar
This is just a good time and place progressive-house record... without too much effort it pushes through with a tech/synth laden loop that is very reminiscent earlier QUIVVER work. Lovin’ the vibe. » SJ
15 --
Richard Dinsdale Handle It Toolroom
The king of the switchy tech house returns with a pounding dance room ditty, meant to bend your will and crush your dance floor... the title is everything you need to know, “handle it”... can you? » SJ
16 --
Yves Larock f. Roland Richards Zookey (Lift Your Leg Up) Defected
In the vein of "I Like to Move It" and following the blueprint of Bob Sinclar's dance-reggae style, rising Swiss producer Yves Larock comes strong with an infectious dancefloor bumper. The strange thing is I swear the key line is from a track in the 80's Schwarzenegger classic movie Commando! » AR
17 --
Luke Dzierzek Identity Fling
You wont have as much trouble saying his name as you will rinsing his tracks. His signature tech-house sound is in full effect on this new EP, and we suggest that you run along and grab it. Bumpy, bouncy upfront tech...just the way you like it! » SJ
18 --
Arno Cost & Norman Doray Apocalypse Cr2
Arno Cost's "Magenta" was a monster, and the follow up "Apocalypse" is nothing short of that. Big room, stomper with a killer synth hook that sucks you in. Trademark string laden break down that leads to some intense beats in the peak. » AR
19 --
Distorded f. Witaz Spellbound (Jon Gurd Remix) Unlove
This lil’ ditty is another classic example of the Jon Gurd bounce, what began as a 4/4 house ho-hum, quickly becomes a an after-party missile of small room chunky beats! Why is this guy not touring everywhere??? Blame yourself or the club near you for not recognizing! » SJ
20 --
Patric LaFunk Icicle (Rene Amesz Remix) Promo
Pure sickness! A late night tech-house wonder combining two of the best producers creeping up the global scales! Rene’s sound is far more big-ron then before, and the results are deafening, quite literally! If you are not on the Rene Amesz bandwagon yet, don’t delay... this wagon is going all the way! » SJ
21 --
X-Press 2 f. Kurt Wagner Give It Silver Label
After their success collabing with David Byrne, X-Press 2 team up with another alt-rocker Kurt Wagner from Lambchop. "Give It" is a nice fusion of gospel-esque vocals combined with smooth house beats. Very Norman Cook, and it works. » AR
22 --
Electrochemie Get Yours Get Physical

What an ear for tunes. Unbeknownst to most of the North American Dj culture, this lil’ label was voted Label of the Year by Dj mag, some time ago...and yet; they keep pumping them out. This sexy, sultry tech-number has the vocals that last and the bump you wont resist. Good combination we think! » SJ

23 --
Housepushers From the Speakers (Chamberlain’s Yakisoba Remix) Mainroom
This one caught me by surprise. Nothing too intricate, just a chunky pulsing number that carries and pumps along. Good tones and a solid little melody make this one an easy addition to the playlist. » SJ
24 --
David Lara Bounty Solar
David is doing a fine job capitalizing in the ‘in sound’! This track is everything you need right now in the realm of tech-house. Bumps, whirps, and even lays down a proper bassline (god forbid!) In short this track is tight! Lets see what else he’s got? » SJ
25 --
Medicine Pese Reset My Mind Presslab
This is my techno/minimal-esque pick of the litter. Although more techno then minimal, these days the title is getting out on everything, so as to avoid disturbing the flow, here you go!!! Another juicy techno track to sink your loopy hearts into! Full marks... Presslab has come a long way! » SJ
26 --
Patch Park Got That M Little Mountain
If you have not heard of Patch Park yet, then you probably aren't a fan of of the tech/progressive house crossbreeding that is occurring of late. Deep and dark, yet refreshingly big enough to trounce a big room, Patch Park are emerging as early favourites for our tech-house artists of the moment! » SJ
27 --
Moonbootica f. Jan Delay Der Mond (Datalife Mix) Moonbootique
Already known for their upfront progressive-tech sound, the do not fail to deliver on this stellar release. Blissed out synths and aggressive percussion highlight a stunning release, cut in four different flavours for your artistic perusal and consideration. Grab it now! » SJ
28 --
Azzido da Bass Doom's Night (Laidback Luke Remix) Kontor
Even though we all know that Timo’s mix of this classic track set the world on fire, and in someway defined a sound that was to churn out of speakers for some time to come, Luke reminds us quite BOOOMBASTICALLY...what a hot track that was...and is now turned once more. » SJ
29 --
Autophase Bonenop Toost (Zimbardo & Slezak Remix) Digiprana
The chart-topping electro maestro Zimbardo brings along his mate Slezak for a dirty tech-ed out remix that will get all the DJ dial-destroyers panting for more... a twitch here, a zoink there... what ya get... an electro smasher! » SJ
30 --
Hernandez & DJ Tyo About Us Born To Dance
Feel good house music from Hernandez & DJ Tyo. Latin inspired percussion, funky keys and a solid vocal keep the energy high and the groove pumping. » AR
31 --
Fedde le Grand Get This Feeling Cr2
Fedde has proven to be not only one the hottest producer going but also one of the most diverse. Get This Feeling is more of a mainstream sounding house joint with vocoded vocals in the vein of a Cassius or Daft Punk. Sweet strings build nicely into the very catchy instrumental. » AR
32 --
Danism & Kenny Bobien Feelin You MN2S
A fine slice of deep vocal house. Can't go wrong when you combine Kenny's lush vocals with fine piano riffs and crisp drums. Could be a big tune for the deep heads at WMC. » AR
33 --
Groove Junkies f. Wendy Brune Work It Out MoreHouse
With vocals styles reminiscent of a Barbara Tucker joint, the Groove Junkies deliver another funk filled head bobber. Lots of grooves to choose from but the sick rhodes and sax infused Funk Fusion Dub is my choice. » AR
34 --
Jedset f. Robina Never Enough Soulheat
Solid vocal house offering from Jedset. Layers of Sound take it to a more current sound with a nice blend of electro elements while maintaining a housier feel. » AR
35 --
Ito & Starr Sudoku Cr2
This one is fairly self explanatory. Its tech, it rocks, its making charts all over the world ad suspect universe as well. If you are looking for a more warehouse vibe to it... the Fanciulli cut will have you looking to the rafters in delight! Hands up bitches, this one is a rager! » SJ
36 --
Filthy Rich Gimme the Bass Toolroom
Generally, unless you are a booty DJ, its best to stay clear of tracks titled like this. But hidden behind this terrible moniker, is a tech-house smasher that tinges on a tribal influence. Huge drums and a mondo-bass drop make this a club hit without question. This one will be your tried, tested and true pick of the week. » SJ
37 --
Santiago & Bushido Head Trick Potty Mouth
These two Chicago natives are turning heads, and now they will turn yours. This track is making the waves in both house and tech-house circles, and even the electro wizards are showing some love. There is a reason why Native Instruments is looking to create a Santiago and Bushido drum software kit, and it isn’t because their tracks are lame! » SJ
38 --
Rhythm Code Don't Stop Cubism
Straight up late night tech-house. Nothing to complex, just a nice solid groover with a low end rumble that seems perfect to mix up with any number of tunes...so, let the mix run on son, run on. » SJ
39 --
Paolo Jackson & Ruud EQ Seriously Wrong Crazy88
This electro number just does the business. The vocal leaves a little to be desired, but no matter as the elements of this track quite handily bring it along. With two additional cuts on this EP, you are almost certain to find one that tickles your fancy. » SJ
40 --
Patric La Funk Tool Toolroom
Be it a simple DJ tool that evolved, or a masterpiece from the very beginning, this track is put together perfectly. Lush tones, astounding bass drops and of course, an arrangement that is to die for. This guy is one to watch for. You heard it here. » SJ
41 --

43 --
Shlomi Aber Quivery Ovum
The eclectic sounds of Shlomi Aber are leaking into all kinds of set-lists these days. With releases on all kinds of labels including Toolroom, and now Ovum, it is clear we aren't the only ones that find the tech-house-turned techno sounds of Shlomi Aber to be of the highest calibre and quality. » SJ
44 --
Osunlande My Reflection (DJ Gregory Remix) Strictly Rhythm
DJ Gregory nails this one out of the park with a moody, driving mix with a killer bassline and haunting vocal. A nice change of pace from his usual Africanism vibes as this one is a little more main room, prime time. » AR
45 --
Mike Monday Zum Zum Great Stuff
Known for their upfront electro, Great Stuff comes through again with a sure fired floor filler. Should you wish to pass on the ‘thriller-esque’ laidback funk of the original, no fear... Audiojack provides a bonafide blaster that will in no uncertain terms obliterate people. » SJ
46 --
Neon Stereo Blue Magic (Dom Kane Remix) Benchmarc
This is as trademark benchmarc as you can get, wibbly electro, break beat influenced madness, turn it over to the Dom Kane remix for a straightforward glitchy tech-house bumper should the original give you a headache. » SJ
47 --
Miguel Migs Mesmerized Salted
Fresh from Miguel's "Those Things Remixed" LP, Mesmerized get funked out by Alix Alvarez. A smooth bassline and floaty pads sweep wonderfully under Lisa Shaw's on point vocals. Another winner from Miguel for those who like soul in their house. » AR
48 --
Jorgensen vs BSD I Don't Care Toolroom
There is only one way to describe this blitzer, electro anthem. Period. The synth-pads that devastate the room, with the seductive yet perverse vocal by Luciana, make this an easy pick for sure! » SJ
49 --
Yousef & Carl Cox I Want You Cr2
This old school Carl classic gets given the modern to spruce up by none other then Yousef. Think that old school epic love, crossing paths with the big room crunch that has taken over the HUGE rooms of the world. Turn to the Deadmau5 mix for the bumping prog cut! » SJ
50 --
Leger & Lake Word Rising Music
When two guys of this calibre team up, there is no question the results will be outstanding. Enter into the mix WORD, a tech-house pounder, that snakes its way around the room only to re-emerge as a modern electro-funk-disco biscuit!!!! SWEET TRACK!!! » SJ

It’s great when your star is in the ascendant, especially in that headiest of all heady worlds, the music business. That unbeatable adrenalin rush as your career seems to be on a permanent upward trajectory. Everyone loves you, everyone wants to be your friend. They slap you on the back (ouch, that hurt actually…), they want to be seen with you (hang on, your trousers reflect badly on me…), take drugs with you (just say no)...
